Moderator Gary L. Dixon
Pastor Dixon preached his initial public sermon April 28, 1996 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, LaFayette, AL under the leadership of Pastor Melvin Owens. He remained there faithfully for 15 months learning to perfect his gifts until God elevated him to the office of pastor. On July 20, 1997, he was called to pastor the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
It was not long before the congregation of Calvary and the entire community grew to love and appreciate him for his inspiring, stimulating and informative messages; in addition to his strong, but compassionate leadership styles. Under his leadership, Mt. Calvary has made tremendous strides and accomplishments, all of which glorifies God and advances kingdom building.
Pastor Dixon has preached extensively throughout this and surrounding areas spreading the gospel of Jesus, the beloved Christ! He is very active in the Bowen East District Association, the Northeast District Association, and the Alabama State Baptist Convention. He has served on various committees in each association and convention. He currently serves as the assistant finance secretary for the Northeast District State Convention, spiritual advisor for the Ministers Wives and Widows, and as an advisor for the Alabama State Convention in the Sunbeam and Red Circle departments. Most recently, he was elected as moderator of the Bowen East District Association.
He was employed by the federal government for 32 years where he retired in 2014 as the District Manager for the Atlanta West Social Security Administration office, Atlanta, GA. While employed with the Social Security Administration, he received several honors and accolades including the agency’s highest honor, a commissioner’s citation for superior performance.
He is a graduate of LaFayette High School and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. ROLL TIDE!!! He is married to Carolyn Phoenix Dixon, formerly of West Palm Beach, Florida, who is not only charming, beautiful, and supportive, but she is also a federal retiree who matriculated at Florida State University.
Of all his accomplishments, none bring him more joy than being a child of the King, having been pastor of the Mt. Calvary Baptist church for the past 21 years, and now having the opportunity to serve as moderator of the Bowen East District Association.
He is a firm believer that only what you do for Christ will last.
